The most dynamic moments in a teacher’s career come when we are outside the classroom. A personal conversation with a trusted colleague illuminates our practice in a way that can’t be seen in a formal workshop or a bustling faculty meeting. When we are comfortable being honest and vulnerable with someone who shares our priorities we can reflect and grow as educators.
Laurence Woodruff and Michael Ralph shared a department for six years. They taught biology (freshman and collegiate) for most of that time and developed a strong working relationship. While they don’t share every viewpoint or opinion, the safe and challenging discussions they had in their Professional Learning Community (PLC) were something they did not want to lose.
Michael left to work in STEM teacher preparation and has since moved into a full time research role at Multistudio, but their discussion and collaboration will continue as they discuss education topics and their professional experiences. You are invited to join their new PLC, with a pint of your favorite beverage and a love for academic discussion.
